Yesterday I launched the new-look garyluhm.net website using WordPress instead of the hand-coding I’ve done in the past. It’s the first upgrade since 2005, and a major step up. Most of the old pages have been re-directed. I hope this doesn’t cause any confusion.
The WordPress draft site began just a month ago. Overall, it’s gone swimmingly. I tried to re-create the look of the old site. Every problem I encountered was solved with a bit of detective work, sometimes with on-line search for a solution. The on-line resources are huge. I got a big jump-start by reading an excellent textbook by Matthew MacDonald “WordPress the Missing Manual”, highly recommended.
WordPress is the leader in blogging and CMS software, with millions of websites and blogs. It’s open source, pretty much free at WordPress.com or on your self-hosted site if you already have a domain name.
I still have work to do, filling out the galleries and creating some new pages to better manage the Adventure and Photo Tip resouces, I think. Let me know if you spot any glaring errors or you have suggestions for improvement.
Thanks,
Gary
